    Contract: Full time, permanent
    Location: Wightwick Hall School, Wolverhampton

    Welcome to Wightwick Hall School

Wightwick Hall School is a growing, forward thinking secondary special school within Endeavour Multi Academy Trust, a Trust of seven schools across mainstream and specialist education.

We are a school where one size fits one. We recognise that every young person is different, with their own strengths, needs, interests and aspirations. Our ambition is to ensure that every pupil is given the right opportunities, support and challenge to Nurture, Grow and Flourish.

Our staff team brings together colleagues from a range of educational backgrounds, including primary, secondary and specialist settings. We value this diversity and believe that great special school teachers come from a variety of routes into education.

    Our Curriculum

Our provision is built around three curriculum pathways, Complex Needs, Semi-Formal and Formal. This enables us to provide a curriculum that reflects the different needs, starting points, abilities and aspirations of our pupils.

We are ambitious about what our pupils can achieve and are continuing to develop and enhance our curriculum offer across all three pathways.

At the heart of our curriculum is Preparation for Adulthood. We want our pupils to leave Wightwick Hall with more than qualifications. We want them to develop the communication, independence, confidence, social, vocational and life skills they need to lead fulfilling adult lives.

This means that learning extends beyond the classroom, with opportunities to develop independence, experience the community, develop vocational skills, access enrichment and understand and pursue individual aspirations for the future.

    The Role

We are looking for a passionate, ambitious and reflective Class Teacher and Curriculum Lead who wants to make a genuine difference to the lives of young people with special educational needs.

As a Class Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering high quality, adaptive teaching that enables pupils to make meaningful progress from their individual starting points. You will build strong relationships with pupils, create a positive and purposeful learning environment and work closely with teaching assistants, colleagues and wider professionals to ensure that every pupil receives the support and challenge they need.

We welcome applications from teachers with both primary and secondary backgrounds. What matters most to us is your ability to build positive relationships, adapt your teaching, have high expectations and recognise the potential in every young person.

    Curriculum Lead, TLR

Alongside your responsibilities as a Class Teacher, you will take on the role of Curriculum Lead, with responsibility for supporting the strategic development of our curriculum across the school.

Wightwick Hall has three curriculum pathways, Complex Needs, Semi-Formal and Formal. Each pathway is designed to respond to the different needs, starting points, abilities and aspirations of our pupils. We are now looking to further develop and enhance the curriculum offer across all three pathways, ensuring that each provides a coherent, ambitious and purposeful learning journey.

The Curriculum Lead will work closely with pathway leaders, subject leaders and the Senior Leadership Team to ensure that our curriculum continues to evolve and meets the needs of our pupils.

A key focus of the role will be ensuring that Preparation for Adulthood is embedded throughout our curriculum. We want pupils to develop not only academically, but also the communication, independence, social, vocational and life skills they need to move successfully into their next stage of life.

    The Curriculum Lead will:

    • Lead and support the ongoing development of the curriculum across our three pathways.

    • Ensure that curriculum planning, sequencing and progression are ambitious, coherent and appropriately matched to pupils' individual needs and starting points.

    • Develop Preparation for Adulthood as a golden thread throughout the curriculum, ensuring meaningful links to independence, employment, community participation and future aspirations.

    • Work with pathway and subject leaders to evaluate the effectiveness of curriculum provision and identify opportunities for further development and innovation.

    • Support the sharing of effective curriculum practice and contribute to the professional development of staff.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious teacher who wants to develop their leadership experience and play a significant role in shaping the future direction of curriculum at Wightwick Hall School.

    Our Approach

We believe that positive relationships are at the heart of successful education.

Our approach is restorative and relational, with a strong emphasis on trust, respect, consistency and understanding the individual needs of each young person.

We want our classrooms to be places where pupils feel safe, valued and challenged, where mistakes are part of learning and where every pupil is encouraged to recognise their own strengths and potential.
