Our Vision for Careers at Wightwick Hall School

Aims and Objectives of Our Preparation for Adulthood (PFA) Careers Education Programme

The careers provision at Wightwick Hall School aims to inspire our students to be curious about the world around them, particularly the opportunities that adulthood, employment and community participation can offer. We want every student to feel empowered to explore their strengths, interests and aspirations so that they can make informed and ambitious choices for their future.

We place a strong emphasis on equality and diversity, helping students to challenge limiting stereotypes and recognise any barriers that may influence their decisions. By developing their confidence, knowledge and skills, we support them in understanding the range of pathways available as they prepare for life beyond school. Students are encouraged to reflect on what each option means for them as individuals so that they can make realistic and well considered decisions that support their personal goals.

As the world of work continues to change, we recognise that our students' ambitions and needs may also evolve. Our careers provision therefore focuses on building independence, resilience and adaptability so that they are well prepared for the transition from Wightwick Hall School and for future changes throughout their adult lives.

Wightwick Hall School meets its statutory duty to secure independent careers guidance for all young people. This is in line with the Education Act 2011 and the guidance on careers education and access to education and training providers issued in January 2018.

We will support our learners to make informed decisions by providing access to differentiated, impartial and independent advice about the full range of post 16 pathways available beyond Wightwick Hall School. This forms a key part of our wider commitment to supporting personal development, life skills and successful Preparation for Adulthood outcomes.
